New Format for MP3s
By stunder | April 6, 2008
So I have been doing a bunch of work on converting all of my old CDs to MP3s. Then I needed to fix the MP3 Tags for all of them. I used EasyTAG to edit MP3 tags and naming in mass. This works great for my needs.
Now here comes the issue. I know I can build playlist with Amarok and upload it or I can play by genre of song. I am a big fan of Punk music so most of the time I just pick punk out of my genre list and let it shuffle. This works alright but then there are bands I like that I consider Punk that gets put under Folk Punk so I miss out on them in my shuffle unless I put them into a playlist or change their genre.
Here is what I am thinking… We need to change the way MP3s tagging and MP3 players interact. It would be nice if you could really “tag” or assign a tag to a group of your mp3s and have the player be able to play by “tag” or “keyword” you can pretty much then get rid of the need to care about genre tags or playlist. If you want something added to a playlist you just add that tagged word to that song. I really think it could change how MP3s are managed.

Hanging out in Doheny Beach
By stunder | January 16, 2008
So Alicia and I decided to run down the coast yesterday. I know living on the coast and going down the coast is kind of lame but we both had a great day. While down in Doheny we stopped by a really cool little Mexican joint called Olamendi’s their food was delicious. We then took of to do some shopping in Carlsbad. Then finished up the day with cocktails on the San Clemente Pier. It was all and all a good day and a needed day for Alicia and myself.

Vegas with Steve Payen and crew
By stunder | January 8, 2008
So this weekend Alicia and I went to hang out in Vegas with everyone. It was a fun trip Vegas wasn’t that big of a mad house being the weekend after New Years and all. We stayed at the MGM for the trip with Lorin and Mingo. Here are some photos of the whole thing.
Randy and I are just goofing off at Nine Fine Irishmen in the New York, New York Casino. This is one of my favorite bars in Vegas they usually have a good band playing there with a five dollar cover its not a bad place at all. You can buy your drinks one by one and aren’t expected to get some stupid ass bottle service.
So this is Alicia and I at Tryst in the Wynn Hotel. This place was a ripoff there is nothing good about it. I really think I am over the whole “this is the best club in Vegas thing”. So right when you come in its 30 bucks for guys then it’s 15 bucks for a call mixed drink and 1o bucks for a bottle of beer. What kind of crap is that? I ended up spending 100 bucks just getting in and getting a round for a couple of buddies. So we decided to purchase a couple of bottles to get a table by the waterfall and it ends up costing 1200 bucks. There is nothing cool about these places just because you get to see some washed up rapper or some coked out ex-athlete I guess everyone thinks hey its the in place to be. I have to say Tryst is a huge disappointment and I will stick to places like The Foundation Room from here on out if I want the Club/Lounge atmosphere.
Alright we did get to hangout and play some Blackjack at the Circle Bar in Harrah’s Casino in Vegas. That was a great time but the dealers there Ruta knows how to take your money with no mercy. I can say this much I lost a bit of money on that table but it was way more fun losing it on the tables and got way more drunk than I ever did in Tryst.

Fishing with the boys
By stunder | January 4, 2008
Well on Jan 1st everyone had the day off of work so Mingo, Simon, and myself decided to go out and do some fishing. We have been fishing out of Davey’s Locker in Newport Beach, CA lately it seems to be the best place around here. This time of year fishing is really hit or miss around here. We caught mostly Sculpin but I did pull up an Dog Shark (or I think it was) on Simon’s little bass fishing rod. It was a nice size shark for that little rod and real combo. Once I got it up to the boat we cut her loose.
Here is a Sculpin if you notice the points at the top of the fins and on the outside of the gill covers they deliver a poison if they stick you. The poison isn’t enough to kill you but it will mess up your day. The last trip Mingo and I went on a Kid got stuck and his hand was going between stinging and numb. Oh well here is one more photo of the face and I am out of here.

Ubuntu and My Dad
By stunder | November 24, 2007
Well every year around Christmas or Thanksgiving while I am at my dad’s house. He usually wants me to work on his home computer. Tune it up fix windows, defrag the drive, update his Anti-Virus subscription, and just do a clean up and backup of the photos of the family they have put on the computer. Well a couple of weeks ago he started complaining about slowness on his computer (getting ready for the holiday ritual). I told him this year I was going to load Linux on his box instead. The 1st thing he asked was “Will I be able to read excel spreadsheets?” I told him “no problem” and if he didn’t like what Linux was doing for him I would rebuild his box and put windows back on it. Once I got behind his PC and started backing up files there wasn’t a single spreadsheet on it. Not sure why that was an issue for him.

TFTP Firewall Backups
By stunder | November 18, 2007
So a week ago we started looking for a way to access all of our Cisco Firewalls (PIX and FWSMs) to run nightly configuration backups. I am not about to pay for it doesn’t seem like something that someone with half a brain shouldn’t be able to build a quick script. So I start looking around and 1st of all I find RANCID. I found that Rancid is great but it did way more than I wanted. The method for retrieving the configs wasn’t what I really wanted. It telnet’ed or ssh’ed to my PIX device and removed the pager lines. After that it would write term and just copy the output. I had unwanted lines in the config file once all was done. I could have kept messing with RANCID but figured I would try something else myself. Read the rest of this entry »
