So I haven’t posted much on my blog the last couple of months.  I have been really wrapped up in life these days.  I am getting married this weekend and can’t wait to get it all done with.  I have a feeling that no matter how simple you try and keep your wedding it just won’t/can’t happen.   Oh well I will post more news on this later.

My Suggestion to Sirius and Their Blow Off

So check it out a while back I was feeling kind of down and I am a big fan of punk rock music. I am also a huge Howard Stern Fan and Bubba the Love Sponge there are days when you just don’t feel like listening to talk the whole day and if you ask me for every other type of music Sirius has a station that will take care of your need. The do have Faction which plays some punk music and even has a weekly show with Marky Ramone who is a legend in the punk world. My issue with them was you can turn on their channels and listen to almost any genre or music an anytime throughout the day except PUNK. Faction plays a mix of Punk, Heavy, Rap, and other… Here is my email to them followed by their BULLSHIT reply I would like to thank Charles B for blowing smoke up my ass.

Message: I really love my Sirius Radio I signed up because all of my
buddies were getting them for Howard. I like Howard but I didn’t get my
radio just for him when I first started listening I liked Faction it was
my favorite for a while because they played some punk rock not all the
time but some times. I used me memo button on my receiver to remind me
when my favorite songs were on. My buddy Matt (he is the reason all of
our friends signed up) started to complain that yeah as cool as Faction
is and as a surfer, snowboarder, and extreme sports enthusiast we were
really like they way that channel is laid out and having Marky Ramone on
is really great. But the music jumps types a bunch and it’s not just a
punk station they play a really good mix and I don’t mind it but there
are a bunch of days lateley that I have been just wanting to listen to
all punk all the time. See my buddy Matt just passed away he was hit on
his motorcycle on his way home from work. Me and that guy used to love
our punk music everything from SoCal to the UK we were all over it.
Sirius has commercials saying “It’s like we are reading your mind”. You
have all kinds of stations that play all types of music but nothing that
plays pure punk all day. Read my mind and please implement a pure
punk station please.

Here is their canned reply man what are they thinking.

Edgy Eft Lighttpd phpmyadmin MySQL install

Well it took me a couple of days to figure out what I was doing wrong. Well Vince W. over at URBAN PUDDLE posted this tutorial about installing Ruby on Rails on Ubuntu Edgy (6.10) with Lighty (lighttpd), and MySQL. In the tutorial there was a linking to his lighttpd.conf file that had the host settings for phpmyadmin pointing to php.example.net just for an example site and every time I tried accessing my phpmyadmin on the localhost. I would get an option on my browser wanting me to download index.php instead of opening it in the browser window. “You have chosen to open” was the message i was getting. I knew it wasn’t an issue with my browser more of my lighttpd config and I started tweaking Vince’s config on his site and this is what I ended up with lighttpd.conf. I am fastly becoming a lighttpd lover and with a bit more work with the config files I am sure I will have it mastered. I should clean up that config file more in the next couple of days to make it look better and not have so many comments. But once you load it and input http://localhost/phpmyadmin/ in your URL bar and it should work. I tried adding the index.php to the link but for some reason I still get the “You have chose to open” when going directly to the file.

AFRO SAMURAI

I was browsing around the web the other day and noticed a new animated series on the SPIKE Network called Afro Samurai. I don’t know how this show slipped past me.  Well besides the only reason I check out SPIKE is for UFC fights.  But they picked out the baddest actor to ever grace the voice over studio Samuel L. Jackson who is the Afro Samurai and currently the number 2 fighter in the whole wide world.  But he is on a quest to seek out Number 1 the current best fighter in the world.  I have been checking out the Afro Samurai site and looks like number one is the character  named Justice with the voice of Ron Perlman.  I haven’t hate to see Justice in the series yet and can’t wait to see Afro kick his ass.

Samuel L. Jackson also plays Afro’s partner or sidekick Ninja Ninja who runs his mouth way to much and doesn’t do any fighting that I have seen yet.  To add to this The Rza from the Wu-Tang Clan does the music for the show which gives it even more of a kick.  I can’t wait to get home and set my DVR to record more.

Bands that will make you gay!!!

I was kind of sickened when I noticed this list put together by the folks at “God Hates Fags”.  I really hope people don’t fall the things that Donnie Davis preaches on his web site.  I have nothing against gay people and think there is more problems in the world than worrying about someone else’s sexuality. But by reading more into the site and looking more at Donnie Davis I have to say I think he is gay. I don’t claim to have some super kind of gaydar or anything but he just seems like the kind of guy that would go gay for a night and then beg god the next day to forgive me. Oh well here is the link to the list and there is a couple of side links to some “God Hates Fags” music videos.

IP To Country Listing

My boss has asked me to come up with a way to deny all traffic destin to Russia and China on our Internet Firewalls to prevent some of these crazy virus/worms that we have had from wondering our network and calling back to their home country. I never knew it was going to be such a task so me and my buddy Brian started searching the web for IP to Country listings and you can find all kinds of list for the countries at  the IANA and other sites but then when you actually break this mess down there is only list of IP ranges not IP ranges with the Subnet Mask of the ranges.  I needed this because the list I am working on is for a Cisco PIX and I wanted the list to have the Network Address and the Subnet Mask not just the range.  Then all I would have to do is add the “network-object” command to the front of the Network/Mask and I would be golden.  Well after days of searching and looking around I found  this link http://ip.ludost.net/ and the guys at Ludost get all of my props.  They have put together a page that has allows you to generate a list of Networks with different mask types on the end.  Here are some of the choices.

  • mask dotted decimal mask
  • ciscomask dotted decimal inverted mask (cisco style)
  • prefix prefix length
  • interval RIPEDB alike intervals

Swing by their site and check it out you have to know the country codes like RU = Russia but you can figure those out with a couple of google searches or just visit the IANA website.

Back on Ubuntu

Alright after a couple of days of messing around with Windows XP Media Center I just couldn’t do it.  I have moved back to Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy and I am going to stick it out.  I am actually thinking about just buying another wireless card for my laptop and remove this crap stick broadcom card all together.  I have always been more of a Cisco Guy myself and this is the first Broadcom Card I have ever had.  Looks like I just didn’t have it in me to switch back to Windows and fall into their crappy OS and just the methods of companies that like to limit what end users can do on their systems.  If I wanted to be limited I would have purchased a WebTV years ago and only used it.

My Battle with HP and Linux

So the other day I gave up my fight with installing Linux on my new laptop.  My HP Pavilion dv6000 series notebook is pretty hopeless on getting up and running fully with Linux.  I tried Ubuntu 6.06 amd64/i386 6.10 amd64 and with all of them I have noticed a couple of issues first of all running the NDISWRAPPER the broadcom wireless works great I don’t want to take anything from that or from the guys on the NDIS team.  My main issue was as soon as I would start using my USB to connect to external storage devices it wouldn’t automatically notice my USB device like on my old laptop.  I switched back to the native broadcom drivers for linux and turns out the 4311 card works with the native drivers but they are very spotty.  While using the native drivers my performance on downloading with my wireless card was awful.  Next is my video card this was a task I can say I did get working thanks to help from some of the guys I met inside the Ubuntu Forums. My last battle was getting the On board web cam working and I could get it to work but it would start and take one photo and then freeze so there was no stream coming out of it.  I could have done without the webcam for now but the show stopper for me was the USB and Broadcom drivers I just couldn’t get around it for now.  I figure I will wait a couple of months while the AMD64, Broadcom, and Nvidia support matures then give it a try again.  As for now I switched back to Windows XP Media Center edition and loaded Cygwin to give me some Unix like support on it.  To tell you the truth I will feel lost till I can get Ubuntu loaded and running native once again.
